Bathmate size guide: which pump fits you
Bathmate water pumps come in sizes, and Bathmate is clear that the right size matters. Too big and the pump can't build enough pressure. Too small and it gets uncomfortable. Measuring takes a minute.
The short answer
Measure your erect length from the pelvic bone to the tip, and your girth round the widest part. Under 12.5 cm (5 in) long, choose a 5. Between 12.5 and 17.5 cm (5 to 7 in), choose a 7. Between 17.5 and 23 cm (7 to 9 in), choose a 9.
How to measure
Measure when fully erect. These are the methods Bathmate itself gives.
- Length: press a ruler gently against your pelvic bone, on the top side, and measure to the tip.
- Girth: wrap a piece of string loosely round the widest part, mark where it overlaps, then measure the string against the ruler.
- Write both down in centimetres or inches, then use the chart below.
The size chart
These ranges are from Bathmate's own size guide. Each one gives the erect length the pump is made for and the largest girth it suits.
- Size 5 (Hydromax 5, Hydroxtreme 5): 7.5 to 12.5 cm (3 to 5 in) long, girth up to 15.5 cm (6 in).
- Size 7 (Hydro 7, Hydromax 7, Hydroxtreme 7): 12.5 to 17.5 cm (5 to 7 in) long, girth up to 16.5 cm (6.5 in).
- Size 7 Wide Boy (Hydromax 7, Hydroxtreme 7): the same length as size 7, girth up to 19 cm (7.5 in).
- Size 9 (Hydromax 9, Hydroxtreme 9): 17.5 to 23 cm (7 to 9 in) long, girth up to 19 cm (7.5 in).
Hydro, Hydromax or Hydroxtreme?
Once you know your size, the series decides how the pump works. All three use warm water in the bath or shower, and none of them needs charging.
- Hydro: the original and the cheapest. You pump it by pressing it against your body.
- Hydromax: the newer design, which Bathmate says gives more pressure than the Hydro.
- Hydroxtreme: a Hydromax with a handball and hose, so you can set the pressure more precisely without moving the pump.
Signs it's the wrong size
- Too big: the pump struggles to hold pressure, or your testicles are drawn into the tube. Bathmate says either one means the tube is too large.
- Too small: it's tight or sore, or it rubs. Stop, and measure again before trying a different size.
Before you buy
A pump makes you fuller and firmer for a while. There's no good evidence that any pump makes you permanently bigger. Our guide to whether pumps work covers what they do, how to use one safely and who should check with a GP first.
Follow the time limit in your pump's instructions. For the Hydro 7, Bathmate says no more than 15 minutes a session.
Questions
Which Bathmate is best for a first pump?
The Hydro 7 is the simplest and cheapest, if you're between 12.5 and 17.5 cm long. Outside that range, go by size first: the Hydromax 5 for shorter lengths and the Hydroxtreme 9 for longer ones.
Are the Hydro 7 and Hydroxtreme 7 the same size?
Yes. Both are made for 12.5 to 17.5 cm, with girth up to 16.5 cm. The Hydroxtreme adds a handball and hose for finer control.
What if I'm between two sizes?
Measure again on a different day and go by the length range you fall into most often. If your girth is over 16.5 cm and your length suits a 7, Bathmate's Wide Boy versions are made for that. Bathmate's customer service can also advise.
Do I measure in the bath?
No. Measure when you're dry and fully erect, before you use the pump.
