Rev-Pro prostate massagers compared: which to buy first
Rev makes four of the prostate massagers in our range, from a plain plastic one with nothing to charge to a remote model with a moving tip. They come from the same maker, so the choice comes down to size and what each step up adds.
The short answer
Buy the Rev-Pro Classic first: it's firm, curved, has a flared base and nothing to charge, and it's the cheapest. Choose the Rev-Pro vibrating instead if you want vibration from day one. The remote and come-hither models are better as a second massager, once you know what you like.
The four side by side
Sizes are Rev's own figures. Where Rev gives the circumference, we've divided it by 3.14 to show the width. We haven't tested these massagers ourselves.
| Massager | Price | Insertable | Width | Power | What it does | Base |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rev-Pro Classic prostate massager | £10.99 | 11 cm | About 3 cm at the tip | None | No motor | Flared |
| Rev-Pro remote prostate massager | £42.99 | 10 cm | About 3 cm | USB rechargeable | Vibrates: 10 patterns, 6 speeds, wireless remote | Not described (14 cm long in all) |
| Rev come-hither prostate massager | £55.99 | 12.7 cm | 3.7 cm | USB rechargeable, magnetic lead | Vibrates and the tip moves: 10 settings, wireless remote | Wearable ring |
Which to buy first: the Rev-Pro Classic
The Classic does the basics and nothing else. It's 11 cm insertable, about 3 cm across at its rounded tip, curved towards the prostate, with a rippled shaft and a flared base. It's made of firm ABS plastic, which is non-porous and easy to clean, and gives clear, precise pressure.
With no motor, you learn which angle and pressure feel right before anything else gets involved, and there's nothing to charge. It's also the cheapest of the four, so it's a low-cost way to find out whether prostate massage is for you.
If you'll need lube and a toy cleaner as well, the Prostate starter kit puts the Classic with Sliquid Tsunami, a thick water-based gel, and Cleanse toy cleaner, for less than buying the three separately.
Or, if you want vibration from the start: the Rev-Pro vibrating
At 9 cm insertable and about 2.7 cm wide, this is the smallest of the four, and Rev calls it a beginner-friendly size. It has a rounded tip, a ribbed surface and a flared base. A removable bullet adds vibration and runs on one AAA battery. Rev doesn't say whether a battery is included, or what the massager is made of.
What each step up adds
- Classic to vibrating: vibration, from a removable bullet. It's also 2 cm shorter to insert and slightly slimmer.
- Vibrating to remote: a battery you charge by USB instead of AAAs, 10 vibration patterns and 6 speeds, and a small wireless remote, 6.5 by 3.5 cm, so you can change settings without reaching round. It's 10 cm insertable and 14 cm long in all, with a textured surface.
- Remote to come-hither: a tip that moves in a beckoning motion as well as vibrating, and a wearable ring that holds it in place so your hands are free. It's made of silicone and rated IPX5, so it's fine in the shower but not for the bath.
- What you give up as you go up: simplicity. The Classic has nothing to charge or lose, while the top two need charging and have a remote to keep track of.
Who should skip each one
- Rev-Pro Classic: skip it if you want vibration, or if you'd prefer something softer. It's firm plastic.
- Rev-Pro vibrating: skip it if you'd rather recharge than buy AAA batteries.
- Rev-Pro remote: skip it if you don't need a remote. The vibrating model covers the basics for less. Rev also doesn't say what it's made of or describe its base in words.
- Rev come-hither: skip it as a first massager. At 12.7 cm insertable and 3.7 cm wide it's the largest of the four, and a moving tip is better once you know what angle and pressure suit you.
Lube and cleaning
- Use a thick water-based gel and far more of it than you'd expect. Rev's instructions for the come-hither model say to always use a water-based lube, and water-based lube is safe with both ABS plastic and silicone.
- Don't use silicone lube on the come-hither model: it can damage the silicone surface.
- Avoid lubes with a numbing agent. Pain is how you know to slow down or stop.
- Wash the massager before and after each use, with warm soapy water or a toy cleaner. Only the come-hither model has a stated water rating, so check the instructions before rinsing the vibrating and remote models.
- Avoid sharing a massager. If you do, wash it between users or cover it with a new condom each time.
Safety, briefly
The prostate is a gland about the size of a walnut, at the base of the bladder. A massager doesn't need to be long to reach it: the longest of these four is 12.7 cm insertable.
- Use something with a part that stays outside the body. The Classic and vibrating models have a flared base and the come-hither model has a ring.
- Go slowly, with plenty of lube. It should never hurt. If it does, stop.
- See a GP if you notice bleeding, or pain that carries on afterwards.
- If you have piles or a fissure, or have had bowel or prostate surgery, ask your GP before trying.
Which to choose
- Your first prostate massager, on a budget: the Rev-Pro Classic, or the Prostate starter kit if you need lube and cleaner too.
- Your first, and you want vibration: the Rev-Pro vibrating.
- You want to change settings without reaching round: the Rev-Pro remote.
- You already know you enjoy it and want movement with your hands free: the Rev come-hither.
